EV + Orchids | H Street Corridor
This H Street Corridor backyard balances rear parking, EV charging, and outdoor living space while preserving existing fruit trees.
The parking area angles around cherry, fig, and persimmon trees to accommodate narrow alley access. The deteriorating stone planter around the cherry was carefully rebuilt to protect the roots and now anchors the head of the parking zone. The existing deck isolated the house from the garden, with off-center stairs and heavy railing blocking views. Relocating the stairs to align with the French doors and rebuilding the railing with cedar posts and stainless steel cables opened the connection.
The orchid collection lives on wooden shelves and repurposed metal baskets mounted along the fence. The existing fence was power-washed and fitted with a trellis topper - extending its lifespan without full replacement.
