ArtGarden Design
ArtGarden Design specializes in urban gardens with unique character. We have the vision to create
comfortable, usable outdoor spaces which have a clear order and utilize simple but rich palettes of
materials. Through creative collaboration with clients, architects and a variety of artists and landscape
contractors, we develop finely crafted gardens that are responsive to the requirements of each site and
its program and manage the projects from design through installation. ArtGarden Design?s work has been
recently selected for a case study for an upcoming book titled The Home Outside written by Julie Moir
Messervy, the co-author of Outside the Not So Big House.
Established in 2001 by Anya Zmudzka Sattler, the practice is located on Capitol Hill with numerous built
projects in the greater Washington area. Anya holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture from School of Visual
Arts in New York City and a Masters in Landscape Architecture from University of Pennsylvania. She is committed
to improving the community and creating opportunities for a collaborative design process with local area sculptors
and craftsmen. Participation in community-based projects complements the residential design work by drawing on
Anya's educational background grounded in issues of urban revitalization and public art.
